In my match reports I wanted to convey the passion which follows "the beautiful game", not just in the professional arena but especially in Non-League football as well. Each and every team is followed with pride by their supporters, whether at home or away. These teams do not generate massive profits year on year but are kept alive by a few unpaid members who give of their time and effort year after year. In each of the games I have seen this season there has been a buzz of excitement just prior to kick-off. Expectations have to be matched - points have to be played for or the next round of the competition must be reached. All, and more, than you would expect from the much loved national sport - without the scandals and notoriety as an ingredient. The author has lived in West Kent for nearly 40 years and, having recently retired, believes watching Non-League football keeps him out of mischief and protects his sanity.
