Isra looks across the Arabian Sea, beyond the oppressive cloud blanketing the sky. She has heard tales of green pastures, abundant crops, and blue skies. She wonders if life is better in the land across the sea. Isra looks at Amiin, her older brother. Orphans navigating a dusty, bandit country. A land of no governance. Food and water shortages. A parched heat that pushes their bodies into the ground. They have no choice but to keep moving hour by hour, day by day, surviving. Their spirit hardened to the land, intertwined with the acacia trees, the sandy earth and the arid air. Red glows sometimes light up the cloudy sky. Isra wonders if it is a sign from a god, Amiin believes it to be a phenomenon more sinister. One day they encounter a strange figure called Mauricio, washed up on the shore from the land called Italia. Mauricio claims “La corsa dei nostril tempi” (The Race of our Times) to be the omen of good fortune. But times are moving fast. Will they win the race of life?
