Champions of Self Publishing unite for first Self Publishing Summit

13 November 2012

Free Guide to Publishing

+

Get your free guide to publishing with expert industry advice, tips and hints.

The Summit aims to demystify the publishing industry and champion Self Publishing as a welcome innovation for both authors and publishing professionals. It is a unique opportunity to bring together Authors, Self Publishers, Traditional Publishers, Literary Agents, Editors and Book Marketing companies under one roof. We will be looking at traditional publishing, self publishing, literary agents, distribution, printers, marketing, sales, author expectations and more.

The author is changing. As publishers and literary agents look for ways to increase profits, authors are beginning to view the publishing industry as a business and themselves as consumers. Today's writers are savvy and sales-focused; they are literary project managers. While they may want the guidance of an agent and the editorial support of a traditional publisher, they also want creative and pro-active marketing, vibrant publicity through social media, dynamic book covers, higher royalties and, above all, greater control.

During the day authors in attendance will be invited to submit an elevator pitch for their own book and the pitch that best captures the imaginations of our panel of experts will be published and promoted, for free.

The Self Publishing Summit was founded by New Generation Publishing Managing Director Daniel Cooke and Authoright CEO Gareth Howard. Both have spent many years working in the publishing industry, collaborating at author events across the country, including at masterclasses and the Authorlounge at the London Book Fair. Other panelists involved during the day include Tibor Jones literary agent and Director Sophie Jones, Legend Press Managing Director Tom Chalmers, Swift Publishing Founder and Director and Sales and Marketing Director of The History Press Tim Davies, and the author Polly Courtney, who abandoned a traditional publishing deal in favour of self publishing. There has never been a more exciting time to publish, but equally, the competition and the challenges have never been greater. The Self Publishing Summit aims to empower authors through honest, constructive advice and above all, choice.

Tickets are £45 and refreshments will be provided during the day. For more information and to book your place, go to www.selfpublishingsummit.co.uk
